Unless you specifically need core debugging, configuration overrides or a particular desktop workflow, start with Clash Plus. It supports Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, making it easy to build consistent habits from the first subscription import. For a Linux desktop client, consider Clash Verge Rev or FlClash.

Desktop users already familiar with mihomo configurations, policy groups and rule overrides can compare Clash Verge Rev, FlClash and Clash Nyanpasu. Android users who prefer a workflow closer to traditional Clash Meta can choose Clash Meta for Android. Clash for Windows and ClashX Meta are no longer maintained and are not recommended for new installations.

Clash Plus stands out mainly for its broad platform coverage. Windows, macOS, Android and iOS users can start with the same product line instead of learning a completely different configuration flow for every device. For people new to Clash proxy subscriptions, rule modes and system proxies, this consistency is often more valuable than adding more advanced toggles.

On desktop, it handles subscription imports, node selection and system proxy control; on mobile, it supports use on the go. Multi-device support does not mean configurations stay synchronized automatically, so subscription refreshes, node selection and system permissions still need to be checked on each device. For a Linux GUI client, choose Verge Rev or FlClash instead.

Clash Verge Rev: Desktop Configuration with mihomo

Clash Verge Rev is a good fit when you want to use a desktop client as a configuration workbench. It organizes subscriptions, proxy groups, rules, system proxy and TUN-related settings around the mihomo ecosystem, making it suitable for users who need to inspect configuration state, apply overrides or handle complex routing. It has installers for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Its settings are more concentrated than those in beginner-focused interfaces. On first launch, import a subscription, choose a proxy group and enable the system proxy; there is no need to immediately change DNS, mixed ports or override scripts. Adjust advanced options one at a time only after the basic connection works, so troubleshooting stays clearer.

FlClash: Consistent Desktop and Android Workflows

FlClash supports Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, making it suitable for users who want a similar interface across computers and Android devices. Subscriptions, proxy groups and runtime status are centralized in the GUI, so moving from desktop to phone does not require relearning completely different feature areas.

Before choosing FlClash, check the system architecture, especially for Android and macOS packages. A similar cross-platform interface does not mean identical system permissions: desktop versions mainly require system proxy or TUN access, while Android requires VPN authorization. After importing a configuration, first verify that the proxy group has a usable node selected.

Clash Nyanpasu: Windows Connection Monitoring

Clash Nyanpasu is aimed at Windows desktop users who want a central view of configurations, proxy groups, logs and connection details. With mihomo-related capabilities, it suits users who understand rule, global and direct modes and want to see how requests match rules.

If your goal is simply to import a subscription and enable a proxy, Clash Plus offers a more direct workflow. If you frequently inspect logs and connection details or switch among multiple configurations, Nyanpasu is worth considering. When Clash cannot access the internet, first check whether the client core is running, whether the system proxy is enabled and whether the current proxy group has a valid node selected.

Clash for Windows: Migrating Legacy Configurations

No longer maintained

Clash for Windows established the widely used Profiles, Proxies, Rules and General workflow, so many older tutorials still use these names. The client is no longer maintained and should not be the default for a new setup simply because more tutorials cover it. For new installations, consider Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, FlClash or Clash Nyanpasu instead.

The archived installer is mainly useful for handling old devices: confirm the original subscription source, export local configurations and record custom rules and port settings before moving to a maintained client. Do not overwrite the new client’s configuration directory directly. Import and test configurations individually to prevent legacy fields from affecting the new mihomo setup.

Clash Meta for Android: Traditional Android Workflow

Actively maintained

Clash Meta for Android suits users who need an Android-specific client and are familiar with the Clash configuration structure. The typical flow is to create or import a configuration, select it, open a proxy group to choose a node, then start the system VPN connection. In rule mode, traffic handling is determined jointly by rule order and policy-group selection in the configuration.

Its workflow is close to traditional Clash on Android, and the settings are relatively technical. If the connection starts but an app cannot access the internet, check that the current configuration is valid, the proxy group is not empty, Android has granted VPN permission and no other VPN-style app is running at the same time.

Surfboard: Rule-Driven Android Client

Surfboard is an independent Android proxy client for users who already understand configuration files, rules, policy groups and basic DNS concepts. It is not simply a Clash client with renamed menus, so check format and field compatibility before importing a configuration; do not assume that every Clash YAML file will work unchanged.

Choose Surfboard only if you are willing to read configuration notices and handle rule differences. Users who only need subscription import and quick connectivity will usually find Clash Plus or Clash Meta for Android easier to learn; Android users who maintain rule files and want to inspect policy behavior can consider Surfboard as an independent alternative.

ClashX Meta: Migrating a Legacy macOS Setup

No longer maintained

ClashX Meta used a macOS menu bar workflow for switching configurations, choosing proxy modes and controlling the system proxy. It is no longer maintained and is now best treated as a migration reference for older Mac setups. For new installations, consider Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev or FlClash, and choose the installer for your Mac’s chip type.

Before migrating, record the current configuration files, custom rules, proxy ports and DNS changes, then restore them item by item in the new client. Apple Silicon and Intel installers are not interchangeable. If you are unsure of your device architecture, check the chip or processor name in macOS System Information, then return to the Download Center and choose the matching entry.

How to Understand Original Clash, Meta and mihomo

Original Clash was an early core ecosystem around which a broad configuration community formed. Many legacy tutorials, field names and client workflows come from that period. Clash for Windows follows this traditional model, but the client is no longer maintained. Use old tutorials to understand the basic relationship between Profiles, Proxies and Rules, not to assume that current clients use the same core.

Clash Meta expanded the original configuration model with additional protocol, rule and network-processing capabilities. mihomo later became the more common core name in this ecosystem. In practice, Meta and mihomo often appear along the same evolutionary path, but clients may still differ in their support for configuration fields, override methods and GUI features.

The core determines low-level capabilities, while the client handles installation, configuration management, system proxies, logs and permission prompts. Two clients using mihomo can still behave differently because of configuration merge order, default DNS settings or system permission handling. After migrating a configuration, reload it and separately verify direct rules, proxy rules and DNS resolution.

Four Steps to Choose an Installer

  1. Confirm Your Operating System

    Distinguish between Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. On macOS, also confirm Apple Silicon or Intel; on Linux, check the distribution and package format.

  2. Exclude Unmaintained Projects

    For a new setup, do not default to Clash for Windows or ClashX Meta. Use archived entries only as migration references when dealing with legacy configurations, old tutorials and historical workflows.

  3. Choose the Right Complexity

    For everyday subscriptions and node switching, start with Clash Plus. For advanced desktop mihomo management, consider Verge Rev, FlClash or Nyanpasu. For Android-only use, compare CMFA and Surfboard.

  4. Open the Download Center and Check the Architecture

    Do not guess the installer from the client name alone. Open the tab for your platform, check the system architecture, file type and installation notes, then download and launch the package.
